Coal Ash Day of Action – TODAY – Join us in Calling the White House!
Just yesterday, in Legislative Hall, we heard an absurd proposal to “process” coal ash in an incinerator in the City of Wilmington. (Again, per usual, this nutty idea is promoted by “Clean Air Council.”) The promoters, Palmetto Energy Group, said they want to melt it and make “decorative tiles.”
Action to regulate coal ash as the hazardous waste it really is, is being blocked by lobbying at the White House (Office of Management and Budget) level. Many examples can be found on the OMB website, including repeated meetings including representatives of DuPont. Continue reading
Alert 671: Delaware environmental laws under attack by “Clean Air Council”
BASF, with help from “Clean Air Council,” seeks to roll back Del. environmental laws, build highly-polluting “biomass” incinerator in Newport, DE

Del. Governor Jack Markell has vetoed bottle bill repeal: HB-201
Our thanks to all who contacted Markell asking him to do this. And thanks to Gov. Markell for doing it.
The next key step towards better management of garbage in Delaware is to break the evil influence of the Delaware Solid Waste Authority, which continues to obstruct, deceive and pollute. The Governor appoints the DSWA board members and designates the Chair. He inherited a bad Board and needs to make changes.

Alert 663: Ask Markell to veto recycling rollback
Delaware’s “Bottle Bill” was enacted in 1982 after years of effort led largely by Pat Todd of the League of Women Voters. As one might expect, a major opponent was the Delaware Solid Waste Authority, known to us as the Garbage Empire. Continue reading
